The six-bridges cruise and the port lodge visit are the two things almost every short stay in Porto ends up doing, and the operators know it. Somewhere between the Ribeira quay and the Gaia waterfront, someone will offer you both on one ticket. Whether that is a bargain or a way of choosing badly depends on which of two quite different bundles you are being sold.
The two structures behind the word “combo”
A cruise with an upgrade attached. The ticket is a boat ticket from €18 per person. Burmester is an optional visit with tasting. The standard cruise lasts 50 minutes, the sunset option one hour; neither duration includes the cellar visit. The starting price is not the price of both activities.
A fixed package. The boat-and-cellar ticket at €36.90 per person includes a 50-minute cruise and a guided cellar visit with two wines, lasting about 45 minutes including the tasting. The city-train version at €37 per person names Real Companhia Velha, includes two wines and a one-hour cruise, and lists three hours overall. Lunch is an optional booking variant.
Burmester and Real Companhia Velha are named choices. For the fixed boat-and-cellar ticket, confirm the house and tour language with the operator before paying if either is decisive for you.

Bought separately, the base cruise starts at €18 per person, an audio-guided Fonseca visit at €16 per person, and a guided Cálem visit at €22 per person. Cálem’s base ticket includes two wines; three-glass tastings are other options.
Compare the total for your selected boat and cellar with €36.90 per person for the fixed package or €37 per person for the train package. The houses, languages and inclusions differ, so there is no permanent saving that applies to every combination.
One payment does not eliminate the arrangements between activities. Burmester requires a call to the number on the voucher to reserve the cellar time and language. For the fixed package, the operator contacts you to arrange times and also offers an open ticket. With the city train, exchange the voucher at Magic Tourism, then go down to Ribeira yourself for the boat after the train tour.

The closing time that breaks an afternoon combo
Check both schedules, not just the boat departure. The city-train package explicitly lists the last cruise at 4.30pm in winter and 6.30pm in summer.
For the Burmester add-on, reserve the cellar appointment before relying on a same-day combination. For the fixed package, ask the operator to confirm the sequence and allow for the walk between boat and cellar. A sunset departure is not evidence that a cellar will receive you afterwards.
Check one thing before booking an afternoon start: is the cellar half fixed to a time on the same day, or is it a voucher you redeem yourself? If it is a voucher and the lodge closes at five, you have bought a cruise and a piece of paper.
When the combo is the right ticket
- You have one afternoon and want both. Choose a daytime departure and confirm the cellar slot.
- The offered house suits you. Burmester and Real Companhia Velha are named; check the fixed package’s house before paying.
- You want a combined purchase. Allow for separate check-ins and any calls or transfers required by the voucher.

If your Douro valley trip already includes a boat trip and a winery, decide whether a city cruise and Gaia cellar add enough variety to your stay.
And if sunset is the point, treat it as its own evening. Choose and price the one-hour sunset option explicitly, then plan the cellar around its confirmed appointment rather than assuming a visit afterwards.
Practical details worth checking before you pay
Where you start and change activities. The fixed package departs and returns on the Gaia side, at Avenida de Diogo Leite 135; the operator describes a five-minute walk to the cellar. The train package starts at Magic Tourism on Rua de Saraiva de Carvalho, then requires a separate trip down to Ribeira for the cruise. Access matters. The fixed boat-and-cellar package and city-train package are unsuitable for wheelchair users; Fonseca is unsuitable for people with mobility impairments. The Gaia cable car connects the waterfront to Jardim do Morro, not to the entrances of the hillside cellars. Plan a route to the actual entrance.
The tasting format varies. Do not assume every cellar pours standing at a bar for fifteen minutes. The fixed package describes about 45 minutes for its guided visit and tasting together. If seating or a longer tasting matters, confirm the format of your chosen visit.
Under-18s. Portuguese law prohibits serving alcohol to minors. The Burmester-cruise option explicitly excludes wine for children and excludes non-alcoholic drinks for them. Select each child’s age when checking ticket prices; a family is not automatically paying four adult tasting fares.
The three boat bundles list free cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity for a full refund. Bring a jacket for the Burmester-cruise option: its operator warns that the river can be windy and colder. Bring headphones for its audio guide.

For a named cellar add-on: six-bridges cruise with the port cellar option, from €18 per person for the boat. Select the Burmester option and reserve its time and language by phone. Plan a daytime cruise around that appointment if you want both on the same day. Compare the ratings in the table without treating the base boat price as the combined price.
For a fixed package: fixed boat-and-cellar package at €36.90; confirm the house, language and times with the operator. For the city train as well: city train, cruise and cellar at €37, with Real Companhia Velha and two wines. Allow for the separate journey to the boat; train audio is in English, French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish, and the boat has no audio guide.
If the cellar is the half you came for: buy it on its own. Cálem at €22 per person is a guided hour with a museum and two wines in the base option; Fonseca at €16 per person offers an audio-guided visit. Add the boat separately if you want to choose both the house and the sailing. Fonseca’s booking page is inconsistent: the description promises three wines, but “Includes” lists two (Bin 27 and Siroco). Confirm the tasting for your selected ticket before paying. Its audio languages are English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, German and Korean; Dutch is not offered.
